November 21, 2011

Hey mom/everyone,
Yep we got transfer calls. I'm going to be a zone leader up in richfield. Right next to monroe (same valley even) where i spent this time last year. Where it's cold. Sigh!
President actually came and met with me and elder Hawkins on thursday and told us our transfers 3 days early because the zone up there is really struggling. Our own area right now has as many on date for baptism as one of their entire districts. So i'm gonna go up and be with elder Lessie (he was one of our district leaders last transfer, i know him real good) and we're gonna see what we can do. Hopefully we can duplicate the success we've seen here. He gave me all the numbers for the zone so i could see how they're doin and get a feel for it and such. Huge honor but even bigger responsibilty. Elder Hawkins is gonna stay and train a new zone leader, elder palombo. He's from tennessee. I was his zone leader when he came into the mission and i love him alot. He's a great elder who understands his purpose and i'm totally fine leaving the zone to these two. There's 7 companionships training throughout the zone though! That's so many! There's a ton of new elders and sisters. I leave on tuesday. It's gonna be neat serving there cause i already know the area and i know almost all of the elders in the zone. So we'll see how it goes. Kinda unfortunate that it's two days before thanksgiving but oh well. It'll be good.

Next time you see bishop johnson tell him i said hi :) And tell Coley i'm super excited for him. I am super excited to see where he goes.

So with yall coming out here how will that work with me being released? Cause i wanna be released at home like normal and i don't really want to tour utah still being a missionary.. But that complicates things ha I wish i could come home for like a week then we come back out and do lots of stuff but i know that would be expensive. And it would kinda throw a wrench in the works for seein elder Oaks which i really wanna do. I dunno.

I'll be within 45 mins of the manti temple so technically we could go on a p-day but we probly wont. But maybe we will :) You never know. I would love to go again, that's such a beautiful temple. I bet i can talk elder lessie into it.

Life is good. I did buy a dictaphone and that was probly the 2nd best thing i've bought on my mission. I'm able to record all kinda of stuff. Conference call with president, nightly journal, District training meetings, knocking doors. Anything i want. I recorded a door approach the other day in which we found a LA lady wanting to get active again with a 9 year old daughter she wants to be baptized. We went straight over to her bishop and told him about her and it was neat to let him be able to listen to what was actually said cause he didn't know her. Lots of fun.

Life in a nut shell, Excited/bummed for transfers, excited to grow and help others grow and above all, humble. Love you guys!

  1. We will be so happy to have Elder Spurlin back in our area!! He did amazing things here in Monroe last year at this time. It is a lot colder here than St. George, but he he is tough and will handle it. It is so fun to read how he is doing and see his growth. You have a great son.
